Our Client, Malta’s leading provider of specialised business and commercial services, is experiencing continued growth within its Finance Department and is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join its team of experienced professionals.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will support the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping activities while gaining valuable exposure to financial reporting, client billing, VAT compliance and other finance-related functions. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is self-driven, organised and eager to develop a long-term career in accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping activities, including bank reconciliations, invoice posting and maintaining accounts payable and receivable ledgers up to trial balance.
- Prepare and process payments accurately and within established deadlines, ensuring all supporting documentation is properly maintained.
- Support the monthly client billing cycle, including the preparation, processing and issuance of client invoices.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, Tax and VAT Departments, and the Malta Business Registry (MBR), as directed by the Head of Finance.
- Maintain accurate, organised and up-to-date accounting records, filing systems and financial documentation while supporting the Finance Department with other duties as required.
Requirements
- Previous experience in an accounting or bookkeeping environment will be considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy when handling financial information and documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, manage workload effectively and demonstrate initiative with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other standard office and accounting-related tools, with a willingness to learn new systems and processes.
Licenses & Qualifications
- Advanced Level qualification in Accounting is required.
- Strong foundation in accounting and bookkeeping principles.
- Good understanding of financial documentation, invoicing and reconciliations.
- Knowledge of VAT processes and regulatory requirements will be considered an advantage.
- Interest in pursuing further professional development within the accounting and finance field.
- ACCA studies or a commitment to pursuing an accounting qualification will be considered an asset.
