About the Role
Position Overview
The Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the delivery, operation, and continuous improvement of customer on‑premise and cloud environments within BMIT’s managed services portfolio. The role is hands‑on across Microsoft 365, Azure, virtualisation platforms, and core infrastructure, working on both day‑to‑day operational tasks and customer projects. The engineer acts as a trusted technical resource, ensuring stability, security, and scalability of customer systems.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Environment Operations
Onboard, administer, and operate customer cloud and on‑premise environments in line with agreed service scopes.
Handle day‑to‑day operational issues, requests, and project tasks across a mixed technology estate.
Support infrastructure‑related networking tasks in collaboration with Network Infrastructure Engineers
Cloud & Microsoft 365 Platforms
Install, configure, administer, and manage Azure services including compute instances, Azure Backup, Azure Storage, monitoring, snapshots, and recovery services.

Configure, administer, and support Microsoft 365 services including Entra ID, Defender, Intune, Exchange Online, SharePoint, and related security controls.
Infrastructure & Virtualisation
Administer Windows and Linux server environments, both physical and virtual.
Manage virtualisation platforms including VMware and Hyper‑V.
Support SAN and storage platforms, capacity management, and performance optimisation.
Project Delivery & Implementation
Assist in the design and implementation of new customer solutions and infrastructure projects.
Execute project tasks in collaboration with Solution Architects and senior engineers.
Automation & Tooling
Use scripting and automation (PowerShell and related tools) to improve operational efficiency and consistency.
Contribute to standardisation of deployments and operational processes.
Preventive Maintenance & Reliability
Proactively plan and execute preventive maintenance, patching, and service enhancements.
Ensure environments remain secure, supported, and aligned with best practices.
Issue Ownership & Customer Focus
Take ownership of assigned issues from start to resolution, applying sound judgement and clear prioritisation.
Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams throughout incident resolution.
Commercial & Internal Collaboration
Work with commercial and service teams to understand customer requirements and support solution design.
Highlight technical risks, dependencies, and improvement opportunities.
Documentation
Document environments, configurations, changes, and problem resolutions clearly and accurately.
Operational Requirements
Participate in an on‑call rotation.
Carry out onsite customer visits when required.
May be assigned different duties in accordance with Group exigencies from time to time.
Skills & Experience (Indicative)
Required
Hands-on experience operating and supporting Windows and/or Linux server environments and virtualisation platforms.
Experience administering Microsoft 365 services and identity (Entra ID) in a support/operations capacity.
Experience supporting Azure services (compute, storage, backup, monitoring) and responding to operational incidents.
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to own issues through to resolution within SLAs.
Strong documentation and change control discipline.
Desirable
Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365, VMware).
Automation experience (PowerShell) and exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code concepts.
Experience with endpoint management (Intune), security tooling (Defender), or backup/DR design.
